In the story The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano The author's purpose in writing this piece is to inform and raise awareness of the hardships endured by Africans from the trip to the New World to the pain of having to live under their owner's rule. The piece was a unique source, as many slaves didn't get freed and much less had the chance to write their own autobiography. The book became a piece of truth and the exposure of what it was really like to be a slave.

In the story A Journey Through Texas The time period in which this account was recorded was the 16th century, but more specifically around 1536 when the author had wandered through Texas for 18 months and finally reached Mexico City."A Journey Through Texas" is really more of a journal entry and by it being the 16th century doesn't do much but express the author's ignorance to the land and to what it may lead. So, you can say that the literary style is a very honest recollection and a personal view on the events that take place. As previously said, this selection was more of a type of journal entry and 1st hand account of certain events witnessed by the author himself. So, one can say that the purpose that this selection was written was to document occurrences and for the author to express his own feelings toward the things he experienced. Personal writing, like a diary or journal, is not meant to be publicly read but when it is, it can give an insight into the author's world at that time.

In the story The Iroquois Constitution The author’s purpose in writing this constitution is to set some laws for the tribes that were part of the Iroquois Confederation to live by. Also the author uses imagery to help the reader picture what the author is describing. When the author is talking about the “Tree of the Great Peace,” you can picture it in your head. The author also uses symbolism. For example, the roots of that tree symbolized peace and strength.

In the story The Navajo origin legend The purpose of the story is to see how the Navajo people learned the creation of life. How they believed in their own beliefs. It shows that the Navajo people had their own belief system. In the time period the Navajo people only knew their religion and their literature. They did not know any other religion. Thats how they explain the creation of the human. It probably won't be the same exact word that the original Navajo people first told, but it is the same basic structure.

In the story the earth on turtles back its basically a magical story talking about how life began on earth. In the story it talks about how a women was falling from the sky and she must symbolize the first human on earth. Also they talk about how there is earth at the bottom of the oceans and how all the animals tried to swim down and grab some earth. The characters in the story are all talking animals like the turtle and the swan and the muskrat. I feel like this story is a little amusing if you like fairy tales its more of something you should read to little kids and it was very short and also in some ways a little confusing.
